Recipients of the college scholarships, pictured from left to right, are Tyler Gralewski, Austin Hofman, Victoria Banuelos, and Magali Souffrant. Not available for a picture is the technical trade scholarship recipient Isaiah Hopkins. Presenting the scholarships is CWC president Becca Wolfe.

Tyler and Austin are co-valedictorians for the class of 2021. Because of his interest in aerospace engineering, Tyler will major in aeronautics at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. His dream is to work for Lockheed Martin and help design new and improved airplanes that limit the amount of pollution released into our atmosphere.

Austin plans on majoring in computer engineering with hopes of creating new technology that would help others, such as fine tuning car safety systems and designing automated lawn mowers.

Victoria’s goal is to become a clinical or criminal psychologist. Because of her interest in mental health issues, she wants to help others, reduce stigmas concerning mental illness, and spread the message of the importance of mental health, especially with at risk youth.

Magali plans to major in fashion business management. She is not only interested in fashion as a form of art and personal expression, but she is also concerned with unjust labor laws and working conditions in developing nations. Her dream is to help revamp the fashion industry to be environmentally and socially responsible.

Isaiah’s first class in automotive technology at Kankakee Area Career Centers made him realize that his desire is to become an auto mechanic. Receiving the CWC scholarship will help him in pursuing his dream.

The women of the Crete Woman’s Club congratulate these young scholars and wish them the best in following their chosen paths. The Club also thanks the community for supporting the various fundraisers, helping them help others.
